PAYMENT PROTECTION PLAN

Regent Life Assurance Company Limited (Regent Life) and American Express® Cards have entered into a policy of insurance to pay benefits as described below. Whilst you are unemployed, provided the Cardmember's policy has been in force for six months and this occurs for two separate events.

Death Benefit

 In the event of death (prior to the age of 65), the outstanding balance on the Cardmember's account will be settled in full.

Lump Sum Total and Permanent Disability Benefit

An amount equivalent to the death benefit shall be payable in the event of the total and permanent disablement of the Cardmember prior to his attainment of age 65. Permanent and total disablement shall mean such incapacity which prevents the Cardmember from following his own or any similar occupation, including the total and permanent loss of hands, or both feet, or both eyes.

Temporary Total Disability Benefit

The minimum monthly installment required to service only the outstanding balance on the Cardmember's account at date of disability (or a portion thereof), after a deferred period of 30 days, will be paid whilst the Cardmember is considered temporarily incapable of performing his own or any similar occupation. This may continue until the Cardmember's 65th birthday, his recovery, his being declared totally and permanently disabled or on subsequent death of the Cardmember.

Retrenchment

Should you suffer loss of employment, prior to your 65th birthday your minimum monthly installment due will be paid on a monthly basis, for a maximum period of six months, whilst you are unemployed, provided the Cardmember's policy has been in force for three months and this occurs for two separate events. No benefit is payable In the event of any subsequent loss of employment. Please consult master policy for exclusions, terms and conditions.

Personal Catastrophe

In the event of you having suffered any of the following, prior to your 60th birthday, and provided the claim is supported by evidence acceptable to Regent Life:
Cancer, Stroke, Heart Attack, Coronary Artery By-pass Surgery, Kidney Failure, Major Organ Transplant, Heart Valve Surgery, Aorta Graft Surgery, Paraplegia, Blindness, Coma, Major Burns, Loss of Limb, Loss of Speech or HIV through blood transfusion.

And providing no claim is made under the lump sum total and permanent disability benefit, an amount equal to the death benefit will be paid to settle your outstanding balance.

Maximum Age at Entry

The maximum entry age of any Cardmember at commencement of a policy shall be 55 next birthday.

General Exclusions

  • Intentionally self-inflicted injury,
  • Suicide or attempted suicide in the first 12 months of the policy,
  • Any physical defect or infirmity suffered prior to the issue of the policy,
  • Any disability which occurs whilst unemployed, unless the disability has resulted in permanent and total inability to follow any occupation.
  • Death, illness, disorder, disability or inability to carry out a remunerative occupation due to the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) or infection from any Human Immuno Deficiency Virus (HIV),

Special Exclusions

  • Total and permanent disability and/or temporary disability arising from abuse of alcohol or drugs,
  • Committing any breach of criminal law,
  • Any airborne pursuits except as a passenger,
  • Any participation in any riot, strike, civil commotion, usurpation of power,
  • Any act or participation in military, naval, air force or police action.

Claims

A claim needs to be submitted within 60 days of the happening of the event. A claim form needs to be filled out and supporting evidence in relation to the claim may be required.

All approved claims will be paid only to American Express® Card, in reduction of the Cardmember's outstanding balance.
